Although not fully
today's reality, the VISION is where we will be...one industrial site
at a time and one operator at a time. If you share our vision, we
hope you will find a way to participate in the development
of the National Lift Truck Operator Registry (LIFTOR) and contribute to
this socially responsible initiative.
The Vision of National LIFTOR is that it is
the "preferred process standard" for designing and developing training,
and management practices for those who operate or supervise the operation
of powered industrial trucks. More so, LIFTOR provides a substantive and
highly effective method for senior executives to align their front-line
employees with the corporate strategic intent.
LIFTOR standardizes "best practices" that are custom matched to
the work site and its people. Because operators are
trained and managed with the best practices available, their risk of
personal injury, fatality, or collateral damage is greatly reduced from
what it was in 1996, when the latest OSHA training rule was promulgated. Additionally, National LIFTOR Licensed Operators are the most
productive in the world. Whenever
experienced operators move from employer to employer, the training
methods and standards for competence are familiar to them, because they
have already been licensed through a National LIFTOR Licensed Industrial
Site. Whenever new operators are
trained, their instructors have the confidence that they are using
methods and standards that are valid, efficient and generally accepted
by others in their industry and who agree with the National LIFTOR
principles. Similar classes of powered
industrial trucks, in the same industry, have the same set of training,
evaluation and management materials available to them for easy
customization at their local industrial site. Customization is
done by specific make, model and attachments, as well as requirements of
the operator's work environment. The process for customization is
based upon an open-systems network that is coordinated through a
National LIFTOR network of participating companies. Whenever materials or new methods are
needed, or other resources are required by those managing industrial
truck operators, they are available or referred through a central
location such as www.liftor.com/
Each and every operator is required to demonstrate that
they are capable of safe operation by submitting to a valid and reliable
on-truck performance test, that is designed for both the hazardous conditions
and productivity needs in their particular work environment. Managers are able to quickly
and conveniently get secure web access to all training and testing
materials, and well as management and incident records related to their
own industrial site. The LIFTOR website will help track operator training
and certification activities. If their is an incident, a process will be
provided to report and suggest improvements to the LIFTOR procedures. Model
Materials and Methods are developed and customized by those industrial
site managers who will use them.
At each industrial site, a National
LIFTOR "Leader" is assigned to systematically provide all possible
resources and supervision for acting on the mission of improved
productivity and personal injury risk.
Front-line supervisors take an active role in driving the
training and management of their own powered industrial truck operators.
